"United with him in a death like his ...united with him in a resurrection like his." (Romans 6:5)
As we continue in the celebration of the Eastertide, we look to the lives of those who journeyed with Jesus to see God's transforming power at work in them. Chief among them is Simon, whom Jesus names "petros," the rock. Peter is in many ways emblematic of all who would follow Jesus: at once, capable of brilliant insight and profound faith, and yet also of stubborn refusal and stunning betrayal. As he begins a new journey with the Risen One, he must first be reconciled with the truth and truly receive the gift of forgiveness God holds out to him. Peter shows us what it is to live a resurrected life, in step with the One who promises to be with us always, even to the end of the age.
