Eastertide- What is an Apostle
April 17, 2016

We continue with our exploration of the risen Christ’s loving invitation –  “feed my sheep” – as we embrace God’s commission as Apostles.

╬  “the sent ones”

In the life of every believer is a calling.  In all of the forms this calling takes and in all of the contexts in which it takes place, it is to become a disciple.  In the original Greek, the “mathetes” or disciple is one who follows the master, learning and experiencing and seeking to emulate the master’s life and teachings.  In Luke’s Gospel Jesus calls together all his disciples and from among them chooses a dozen whom he names “apostles.”  “Apostolos” in Greek means “the sent one.”  Jesus commissions these seasoned disciples – sends them – to go forth, sharing his ministry:  proclaiming the Gospel, caring for all who are in need … feeding God’s sheep!

Second Sunday of Easter
April 3,2016

Eternal and all merciful God, with Peter, Mary and the other disciples, remind us of your love and forgiveness. By the resurrection of your Son, show yourself to us and inspire us to follow Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
