“sheep among wolves”
The image of a sheep can be an unattractive one to the people of God. Yet Jesus knows, as he sends his followers forth in mission, that they are vulnerable in a world that operates according to its own values and expectations. And he knows this full-well, having personally experienced its potential for resistance and rejection. Yet he has no desire for them, or us, to become victims. Rather, he cautions us to be wise in the ways of the world, shrewd in our dealings and mindful of wolves that lurk among the lambs.
